Tree Authority Public Hearing

More than 50,000  objections were filed with the BMC to protest against the proposed tree felling of more than 2500 trees at Aarey forest. This campaign was carried out after the MMRCL illegally felled more than 200 trees at Aarey forest despite protests from citizens

Following this, more than 1500 citizens appeared for the public hearing held at Byculla Zoo on the 10th October 2018. After an initial attempt by the police to stop the ‘public’ from attending the ‘public’ hearing; the meeting itself ended when the tree authority officials fled their own meeting and denied the public a fair hearing. Following this, The Bombay High Court told the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to grant hearing to residents objecting to the tree cutting proposal for the Metro car shed project.
